All-New (Again) Wonder Woman

Of all the recent DC Comics relaunches, Wonder Woman has been by far my favourite. Brian Azzarello has given us action, horror and intrigue, and a slightly 'Dallas'-esque feel to the series. Wonder Woman finally has a (dry) sense of humour too! The mighty Cliff Chiang provides really beautiful art and stylish character designs. His Amazons look Amazonian, and his Gods and Goddesses are visually striking and inventive- not a toga in sight. Issue 3 is out today! Highly recommended.

Wonder Woman, Jeggings, Etta Candy & the New 52

After last week's 'classic' Wonder Woman pic, i thought I'd have a go at the all-new (yet again) Wonder Woman, who has been re-designed along with the rest of the DC Universe starting this week. Unfortunately, this drawing is out of date already. Wonder Woman's jeggings have gone up and down like a fiddler's elbow and it looks as if they have settled on her running around in starry knickers. Again. I'm sure the talented Cliff Chiang will try his best to make it work. Personally, I'd prefer her to wear either troosers or a skirt, but huge corporations have made a habit of completely ignoring my wishes lately. Fancy that! I've also included Etta Candy* and re-re-designed her back to the calorie-consuming, sweet-toothed, chubby bundle of energy she once was. Surely it's far more 21st century for her to be fat again, with morbid obesity on the rise in the western world? Unfortunately, that'll probably be one radical change too far.

*My other half keeps referring to the character as 'Hadda Cake'. Now that's a name! I'm going to use that!

Dough Nut Mess With Wonder Woman!

According to DC Comics, this is the last week of 'classic' Wonder Woman before she is reborn with an amazing new look and new direction. This happens to the character every few years anyway, as nobody there seems to know how to make a Wonder Woman comic actual human beings want to read. They sit around there like the nuns in The Sound of Music singing "How do you solve a problem like Diana?". So the poor dear suffers the indignity of being redesigned by Jim Lee. Twice! More on that next week. For now, let's take a moment to enjoy our favourite Amazon Princess deflecting some salad.
